The first is VW's gas-sipping, four-cylinder, turbocharged, 2.0-liter direct-injection TSI model, which produces a generous 238 horsepower. This is an improved version of the 2.0-liter found on the Golf GTI performance hatchback. And for drivers who need a little extra punch, the well-known Volkswagen VR6, 3.6-liter six-cylinder powerplant puts out 280 horsepower under the hood of the Atlas. Both engines are coupled to Volkswagen's 8-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® for smooth and responsive driving. Atlas will also come equipped with a Drive Mode Selector, which will help you make the most of engine power and smooth transmission under a variety of road or off-road conditions. Some Atlas 2.0T and 3.6 VR6 models will have front-wheel drive, while others, powered by the 3.6L VR6, will also be available with Volkswagen's latest-generation 4MOTION full time all-wheel drive system.
Go Back to the Beginning >>Atlas' Strength Is In SafetyVolkswagen has always been committed to producing vehicles with the safety of driver and passengers in mind. Reducing or avoiding injury is critical when accidents happen. However, it is also a key Volkswagen principle to help drivers avoid accidents. Our advanced safety systems which are expected to be available with most trim levels of Atlas include a backup camera, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic warning, and collision mitigating braking. This is over and above our standard safety features, like safety belts, LATCH restraints for child seats, front and side airbags, and a host of engineered features designed to keep the accident outside and you safe inside. However, nothing is as safe as a well-prepared driver. So when you're ready to take to the roads in an Atlas, make sure you come to our dealership and drive one for yourself. Our dealership and Volkswagen always encourage our customers to operate your VW safely, because we like you a lot! Volkswagen's Intelligent Crash Response System is found in all Volkswagen models. Should a collision occur that causes the airbags to deploy and the ICRS to be activated, ICRS will automatically unlock all the doors, disable the fuel pump, and turn on the hazard lights. The system helps to insure that your risk of an engine fire is minimized, that you can get out or First Responders can get in, and having the flashers on will insure you are found in case your Volkswagen goes off the road. Another safety system on all Volkswagens is the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System. One of the most dangerous situations a driver and their vehicle can be in is just after a minor collision. The driver may not be able to react quickly enough to prevent a follow-up collision, and that's actually where the most damage has a likelihood of happening. Regardless of whether the force of the first collision was enough to set off the vehicle's airbags, the impact sensors will engage the system. This causes the car to apply the brakes automatically for as long as it takes to slow the car down to 6 mph. Post collision braking is intended to prevent your Volkswagen from rolling into another vehicle or dangerous situation, and give you a moment to regain control of your vehicle. Drivers can always override the system by pressing the gas or brake pedals. Many Driver Assistance systems are in your Atlas to keep you on the road and out of trouble. Lane Assist uses a camera to monitor the lane markings and will alert you if you begin to drift without your turn signal on. VW's Adaptive Cruise Control has a radar system to insure that you reduce speed as you approach slower moving traffic ahead, without having to shut the cruise control off. Front Assist is always on the lookout for obstructions or stopped vehicles. It is tied in with the Adaptive Cruise Control and includes Automatic Emergency Braking, so that if you don't notice the danger coming, your Atlas can still stop in time. Your 2018 Atlas can also look out behind you! Starting with the Rear View Camera, your in-dashboard display will give you a picture of everything just behind your bumper. Advanced Blind Spot Warning and Cross Traffic Detection alerts you when something's coming behind you that you might not see. As you drive, indicators can tell you if a car is just tucked away neatly where you won't see it if you wanted to change lanes or pull over. It's also very useful in crowded parking lots when you may not see an approaching car as you back out. Light Assist is great for the times when you adventure with your new Atlas at night. As you steer, your headlamps will bend just a bit, so you can see what's coming up ahead of you. Available fog lights and puddle lights help to keep your way lit, wherever your way is going to be. Atlas can even give you an extra assist when you need to park, parallel or otherwise. Park Distance Control ("Park Pilot") helps you stay far from objects, and the advanced Park Assist uses cameras to help you monitor how much space you have, just in case you're trying to fit your Atlas into a tight parking spot or parallel parking on a city street. Speaking of cameras, Atlas will also debut a new Volkswagen feature called "360-Degree View", which uses all onboard cameras to help you see the whole picture of what's around your Atlas that can block your way. It's the latest in the industry's best suite of tools to keep your ride safe and your adventures fun.

With a total of 153.7 cubic feet, generous headroom, hip room and legroom in all three rows, and both the first and second row seats adjustable, even tall adults have no problem riding comfortably in any seating position. Lots of gear can fit in the 96.8 cubic feet of total cargo room with the second and third row seats folded flat. Anything from the family dog to a small kayak or a family's luggage for a long vacation fits. And with available roof cargo carriers, trailer towing preparation on select trims, and a host of VW-approved accessories like bicycle and snowboard racks, your Atlas will be able to carry all the essentials for your weekday or weekend adventures.

It's more capable than your ordinary panel of gauges, because you can change it around to display the vehicle functions most important to you. If you use onboard navigation, the Digital Cockpit can also give you directional prompts on the driver's display, so you can keep your eyes where they belong. On the road (or off it, if that's what you're doing). Add to the standard onboard features and Digital Cockpit, all of Volkswagen's Car-Net® capability will be available for you with the Atlas. You can operate select vehicle functions from a mobile app, connect your smartphone via Bluetooth to the Atlas, and obtain motorist help with the available Safety and Security subscription based service. Car-Net® Connected Vehicle ServicesVW Car-Net® makes your Volkswagen more like a friend. It gives advice, helps you along the way, entertains you, and watches out for you. It connects you to the world outside all from the comfort of your driver's seat. VW Car-Net® is your partner in drive. There are three levels of Volkswagen Car-Net® capability. The basic Car-Net® App Connect takes advantage of the MIB II infotainment system, auxiliary USB connectors and onboard Bluetooth connectivity. Car-Net® App-Connect includes free smartphone apps, downloadable from iTunes® and Google Play® for a wide variety of compatible phones. App-Connect allows you to tell your Atlas what you want, and it will use your phone's apps to help you navigate, read e-mail, or do anything within reason. From unique performance-inspired styling to design enhancements, the R-Line Atlas takes style and sporty features in an SUV to the level of Volkswagen. Available on upcoming SE and SEL trims, with the 4-cylinder TSI Turbo (FWD Only) and 3.6-liter VR6 (FWD or 4MOTION AWD), the R-Line package is expected to go on sale later after the initial Spring 2017 launch of the model. The new trim package augments the Chattanooga-built SUV's sportiness with exterior and interior design elements that give it an even more dynamic appearance. The Atlas R-Line was debuted at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The R-Line package offers a full suite of connected vehicle services and driver assistance features. The exterior styling details include 20-inch aluminum-alloy twin-spoke wheels; R-Line badging; unique front and rear bumpers that incorporate stylish air intakes at the front and a diffusor in glossy black paint at the rear; and side skirts. The all-new Atlas was designed to let people live a life as big as their imaginations. The Atlas Weekend Edition integrates several available accessories that enhance the SUV's versatility with innovative cargo solutions. The Weekend Edition concept was based on an SEL Premium model, equipped with a 3.6-liter VR6 engine rated for 276-280 horsepower, paired with Volkswagen's advanced 4Motion® all-wheel drive with Drive Mode Select.
Fitted with 18-inch Prisma wheels in anthracite gray finish, the Atlas Weekend Edition features the Urban Loader cargo box. When empty, the Urban Loader has a sleek, minimal appearance; when needed for hauling, it can expand to a 17.7 cubic-foot container. In addition, the Weekend Edition features base carrier bars for attaching accessories for skis, snowboards, kayaks or bikes. Reaching the roof cargo or helping children in and out is easy with practical side steps. A cargo divider provides a safe, pet-friendly barrier behind the second row, and passengers in the second row get an innovative universal tablet mount, for entertainment and games instead of "Are we there yet?" Tablets traveling onboard can use the Atlas available Media Control using Wi-Fi technology (Available for Android and iOS tablets and smartphones). 2018 Atlas Warranty
Announced at the 2017 New York International Auto Show by the Volkswagen Group of America's Heinrich Woebken, the 2018 model year SUV's will come to Danbury Volkswagen with the industry's best warranty for sport utility vehicles!
Compared with competing models which only offer three-year/36,000 mile or five-year/60,000 mile limited warranties, Atlas will come with a standard Six-Year or 72,000 miles (whichever comes first), Limited Bumper to Bumper Warranty which includes all powertrain components and the 4MOTION® all-wheel drive. Unlike other manufacturers, the warranty will be fully transferrable to future owners and reflects Volkswagen's absolute commitment to the quality, safety and reliability of your 2018 Atlas.
